Evaluating the coupling efficiency of OAM beams into ring-core optical fibers

In optical communications, space-division multiplexing is a promising strategy to augment the fiber network capacity. It relies on modern designs that support propagation of multiple spatial modes. One these fibers, ring-core (RCF), able propagate modes carry orbital angular momentum (OAM), and has been shown enhance not only classical, but also quantum communication systems. Typically, RCF are used as orthogonal transmission channels for data streams coupled into using different Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beams. Here, we study optimal conditions multiplex information fibers in this scheme. We determine which most relevant LG beams be considered, how their coupling efficiency can maximized by properly adjusting beam width with respect parameters. Our results show depends upon OAM value, limit achievable rates. regard, choice couple RCF. Rather, another class OAM-carrying beam, perfect vortex allows nearly efficiencies all supported fibers.
